And here we are. With a little later than the American Marketing, since a few days we are using a Nexus 5 x UK that we purchased at € 299.00, list price same as Italian. This is the real successor of Nexus 5 released in 2013 and a product able to convince in many aspects and to please all lovers of experience Nexus. Find out the full review:
Hardware, Materials and ergonomics:
Nexus 5 x is based on the Snapdragon platform 808, one of the most interesting of the year processors because it is able to provide high performance, 64-bit architecture and a set of characteristics that made it one of the smarter choices on some top 2015 range. To help this CPU is a GPU Adreno 418, powerful and capable of running any games or graphics application with no real problems. The RAM to 2 GB and is unfortunately stops LPDDR3 because the S808 does not support DDR4 used instead on Nexus 6 p.
Although the RAM is certainly not abundant, the lightness of the OS as well Google still manages to persuade the user and Marshmallow brought an optimization definitely higher than a Lollipop of all resources.

Nexus 5 x is then powered by a battery from 2700mAh and we also find a 12MP camera back.In terms of materials the phone is well built and assembled but not certainly has the feel of premium smartphone. Google has indeed diversified the offer this year and the Nexus 6 p is the only all-metal of the new range of products.
Despite this however the matte back cover is pleasant to touch, not collect fingerprints and allows to use the fingerprint reader. The overall dimensions are such that the Nexus 5 x usable with one hand without too much trouble and weighs 136 grams.
We could almost say that the Nexus 5 x is like the Nexus 5 in 2013 at the level of the display. A nice Panel, with a good resolution but certainly not comparable to the best IPS or Amoled panels. In General, the colors are a bit washed out and blacks shallow. Nothing tragic and anyway it is a great screen presenting a touch responsive and very accurate. Strange non-perfect reproduction of gray and light sensor not particularly quick in adapting to different ambient light conditions.
Outstanding fingerprint sensor rear instead which allows you to unlock your Nexus 5 x in an instant without having to press anything but simply by placing your finger on the reader.Precise and doesn’t miss a beat. Not particularly uplifting Ambient Display that cannot take advantage of Amoled technology and also not very precise at the time: we hope for future update.
Drums, Audio and reception:
The first thing you notice upon opening the box the Nexus 5 x and that certainly makes me angry seeing the price at which it is sold, is that there is no way to connect your phone to your PC. Unfortunately in package includes a USB cable Type-C type C connector on both sides. A weird choice since it was enough to use a battery charger with USB socket classic and not Type-C. Perhaps the reason is charging at 3A output allowed by the charger but the result is still only one: you’ll have to buy a USB cable USB Type-C to normal (or adapter) to connect your Nexus 5 x to PC (and considering that we are talking about a product Nexus, devoted largely to developers is quite absurd this lack).
Given this premise, the battery from 2700mAh reflects expectations. After almost a year of waiting hoping for an energy saving improvement on Lollipop, Marshmallow had initially elated with Doze but after the results seen on Nexus Nexus 5 x 5 and this we can say that we are still a long way from “miracle” or perhaps more simply, it is now clear that they serve big batteries first.
Doze and marshmallows are a great pairing as the smartphone is in standbyand in fact leaving the phone on my desk for a couple of hours you’ll end up with virtually the same percentage though there were arriving several notifications.
To use real instead changes little or nothing and Doze practically does not intervene. By using the logon screen phone, internet, connection, and still an active use, Nexus 5 x you download as any product with a battery will come over for dinner not 2700mAh and with intense use. While on the one hand hold in your pocket the consumption is very low, the improvement over a full day of use made by Doze is counted in “several minutes” of autonomy in addition (it is virtually impossible to make an accurate estimate). If you use your smartphone just so active and perhaps for work you keep on your desk but not using it, you will have great autonomy since standby is considerably less energy-intensive.
As for the audio quality has improved dramatically in LG call than the previous Nexus 5. In capsule sound is warm, pleasant and even high and via the speaker mono front and lower the contents are played well and with a great volume.
No problem then to receive that is perfect for all situations, and with a very complete connectivity saw that practically nothing (Dual SIM and microSD cards aside).
Nexus 5 x is the first next generation smartphone to arrive in our country with Android Marshmallow 6.0. This is the evolution of Lollipop and a system of which we have spoken far and wide over the past 6 months. For a careless user little or nothing changes in terms of aesthetics compared to Android 5. Vice versa for those who know where to look, the changes are profound and interesting. Nexus 5 x is by definition a pure Android and therefore offers the best of Google without any invasive customization and optimise resources.
If by Doze we talked, the renewed application permission management is definitely the second thing that catches your eye. The early stages of configuration and a new program that you installed, they will show you a series of popup to give consent or not to access certain portions of this phone (contacts, memory, sensors and the like). An approach very iOS but which greatly improves safety. Initially, for those accustomed to Android, could annoy popups that occur but after the first day and the settling phase everything returns to normal values.
Marshmallow has also brought greater freedom with support OTG navito and the ability to enable some features hidden with the “drum system” which allows you to change the location of the Quick Setting and enable battery percentage. All things that a buyer already know very well and definitely will take advantage of Nexus even down advanced with app and release of various types.
Speaking generally of the reactivity of Nexus 5 x, we would have expected something more. This is not to say that the phone goes wrong in fact, it’s very responsive, extremely pleasant to use, fast and well optimized as well as being very stable. But what you would expect from a Nexus 2015 with marshmallows and a Snapdragon 808 is maximum reactivity in opening the app and in the General Administration. Small slowdowns, some “waiting” too and a camera that does not start its fast are a shame.
Add to that the fact that a particularly intensive use some small extra wait when switching between apps is presented (see Activating camera, back to home, launch chrome and social and the like). Here we cannot but criticize the choice of Google: 2 GB on Nexus 5 x and 3 GB on Nexus 6 p can be formally correct but have 3 to 5 x and 4 for 6 p bad I would do and the prices they would have allowed.
We don’t want to be picky and we repeat that the overall experience is satisfying but it is clear that we must consider Nexus 5 x the price Italian (which it does clash with virtually all the top Android range on the market) and not to the approximately 350 € that is sold in America.
Camera and Multimedia:
Great Scott! Finally a Nexus that makes great photos in virtually all light conditions and with an improved camera app and leaning at a great Google photos. We never imagined being able to write this sentence but finally Google has succeeded in its aim. Nexus 5 x has superior optical performance with a 12MP resolution and laser focus technology that improves and accelerates the focusing. The quality is very good and convincing definition. The software is simple but offers everything at your fingertips with the 4 k video support and a HRD that works very well.
In addition, Google picture that has become a true travel companions. Unlimited uploads, automatic cloud, photo well done and nice addition to the realization of automatic video cataloging and categorization mini pictures. Google will also “our business” but the result like it.
The videos are not bad and reflect the photo quality: too bad the stabilizer OIS absent.
In addition to photos, music to manage car is interesting and we are curious to see with YouTube Red and new services as it will change the approach to multimedia world with the Nexus. For the rest the adrano 418 does its job well with 3D games. Only real limit memory: 32 GB are enough but not abundant, 16 GB limited.
Google and LG have done a great job. The Nexus 5 x is the worthy heir of the Nexus 5 of 2013 and some limitations and aesthetic choices and materials were made only to “fault” of the Nexus 6 p and to differentiate the models. Nexus 5 x does not disappoint by any point of view but at the same time is not the best Android on the market. Balanced, fast, with an audio Department with full connectivity and convinces with a camera that x has no real weaknesses and between pure Google system hotfixes and community support will be a product that will be appreciated. Maybe in a couple of months around 300 €.
