Manufacturers Agree to Improve Their Tools Locks of Their Mobile Devices

The increase in thefts of mobile devices and the pressures of the United States authorities the main manufacturers, American operators and software companies have signed an agreement for improve their burglar tools of their mobile devices.
In this voluntary commitment signed before CTIA by Apple, Asurion, AT & T, Google, HTC America, Huawei Device USA, Motorola Mobility, Microsoft Corporation, Nokia, Samsung Telecommunications America, Sprint Corporation, T-Mobile USA, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon Wireless are committed to:

  • Remote cleaning all the authorized user data (i.e., delete all personal information that is added after the purchase, such as contacts, photos, messages of electronic mail, etc) found in the smartphone if lost or stolen.
  • Let the inoperable smartphone an unauthorized user (for example, blocking the Smartphones by what cannot be used without a password or PIN), except in accordance with the rules of the FCC for emergency calls, and where applicable, emergency numbers (e.g., “call home”) authorized user preset.
  • Prevent a reactivation without the permission of the user authorized (including factory reset attempts at unauthorized) to the extent that is technically possible (for example, blocking your Smartphone as in point 2).
  • Invest the unusable If the smartphone is recovered by the authorized user and restore user data on the smartphone to the extent possible (for example, restored from the cloud).

The majority of points who asks the CTIA, and that shall comply with devices manufactured after July 2015 in the United States, are already met by “Android Device Manager”, “Find my iPhone” and “Find my Phone” from Microsoft. Google only it lacks prevent reactivation of the device from the factory reset, provided it is technically possible.
