Google: “Android One Has Become a Part of Our Overall Strategy of Hardware”

With Google I/O 2016 to around the corner, so close that even the official app of the event is now available, start the betting on what will be presented and what not in the big event of the year for developers and users of Android. Although software always gets most of the attention, with the arrival of the Pixel C and Rick Osterloh has opened the door to also speculate with hardware.

We don’t know what will be designing Alphabet in this regard, but the person in charge of Android One, Mike Hayes (Director of Business Development for Android, Chrome & Hardware Partnerships in APAC and Global Business Development lead for Android One according to his LinkedIn), anticipated that both sectors already walking together hand.

“Android One has become a part of our overall strategy of hardware”, Hayes said in an interview with India Times. Since a few weeks ago, the thriving hardware division is under the direction of former President of Motorola, Rick Osterloh, who has returned home after a brief stint by Lenovo as part of the acquisition package.

All indications and some rumors such as the manufacturing of its next Nexus point to that bet for the physical product, and the head of Android One has not denied it. “Without wanting to realize too, has dropped that”Google is taking a broader perspective of its hardware business, so you can expect to see the stance on what we are doing over the range of input devices.”

More Android One and more variety

There who expects to see mobile and more powerful tablets with Android One, remains a program that revolves around three elements: “the mass of input range, more accessibility and offer market services market”.

Hayes has confirmed that they are still working with a multitude of manufacturers and operators, but in the absence of new releases has recalled that the pace of releases depends on its partners. The process can win a little bit of traction now that everything is more flexible, which will allow each assembler to take advantage of their strengths.

At the beginning all smartphones with Android One should share features such as chip or screen, but such padlock was broken as it showed the GM 5 Plus of General Mobile, the first phablet with Android One.

According to Hayes, it is the manufacturer who choose the components of your smartphone or tablet. “They decide everything about specifications and prices when launching”, while”we work on the elements of software as offering services and Android as a platform””.

Why we see so few Android One

There are other two reasons for the delay in the expansion of this model of the operating system. The first who said Hayes is the distrust of the companies, they decide not to jump until they see a neighbor doing it and then realize that you can make Google services.

The second is the study that is made of the laws, regulations and the tax system of each country before taking the step of entering a new market. Among recent success stories, the person in charge has cited Indonesia, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

What has become clear with these statements is that Google thinks Android One leverage on those mysterious devices it works on its hardware division. And we hope to know more in just a couple of weeks.
